He was born on June 11, 1913, in Tbilisi. He graduated from the Tbilisi Conservatory in 1935 with a degree in composition. From 1938 to 1980 he was a teacher at the Tbilisi Conservatory. He founded the State Pop Orchestra of Georgia, becoming its first chief between 1941 and 1945. He created music for stage works, including Sokhumi State Drama Theatre productions.
