Parna Lapiashvili

Designer, pedagogue

He was born on May 9, 1917, in the village of Mirzaani, Dedoplistskaro district.

He graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1941. Parna Lapiashvili designed 108 theatre, opera, ballet and musical comedy productions. His pedagogical work is also noteworthy. Generations of artist-decorators trained under his leadership.

From 1970 until the end of his life he was a pedagogue at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and a Head of the theatre-decorative workshop.

Awards:

1967 – People’s Artist of Georgia;

1966 – Medal for Labour Bravery;

1951 – Honoured Art Worker of Georgia;

1951 – USSR State Prize.
