Nino Chitaishvili

Designer

In 1989 she graduated from Tbilisi State Academy of Arts with a specialism in stage design. From the time she studied at the academy, she has worked as a set and costume designer. She has designed more than 50 productions in Georgia, as well as abroad, including: Marjanishvili Theatre, Tumanishvili Theatre, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Sokhumi State Drama Theatre, Youth Theatre, Basement Theatre, Kutaisi and Telavi Drama Theatres, Hague Theatergezelschap Mimesis.

She designed the Sokhumi State Drama Theatre production:

She has designed costumes for folk ensemble Rustavi. Her costume collection Georgian Fairy Lady was presented at the Medmoda 2005 in Italy. In recent years, she has presented four personal exhibitions. She also takes part in various group and thematic exhibitions. Her sketches for the productions Mariana Pineda (for M.Tumanishvili Theatre) and The Cherry Orchard (for Theatergezelschap Mimesis) were exhibited in Paris in 2010 during the retrospective of Georgian theatre and cinema arts. She participated in Prague Quadrennial 2015, Georgian National Pavilion.

She has designed several books, including the poem ‘Knight of the Tiger’ and the book Georgian Fairy Tales (edition by Karhcakhadze Publishing). Her biography is included in the directory Who is Who in Georgian Arts 2000. Her paintings are held in personal collections in The Netherlands, USA, Great Britain, among other countries. Since 2013 she has worked as Head of Design Department of Tbilisi Youth Theatre, named after N. Dumbadze.
