Vaso Kushitashvili

Director

Born on April 25, 1894, in Tbilisi.

He studied at the V. F. Komissarzhevskaia Theatre Studio in Moscow (1914–16). He worked in France as a producer for 15 years, at the Antoine and Odeon theatres. He also founded the Atelier theatre. He worked for a time in the United States, in theatres in New York and New Orleans. As a man of great professionalism in culture, deep education and exquisite taste, he had a gift for establishing creative contacts and for working with actors. The following are some of his noteworthy productions for the Marjanishvili theatre: The Broken Bridge, by I. Chavchavadze; The Marriage of Figaro, by Beaumarchais; Ruy Blas, by Victor Hugo; Richard III, by Shakespeare. He headed a number of Georgian theatres. His work helped develop the Georgian theatre.
