Tamar Vakhvakhishvili

Georgian composer

She was born on January 4, 1894, in Warsaw. She studied at the Tbilisi Conservatory, then graduated from the Vivaldi Composition Class at the Paris Conservatory. From 1921 to 1926 she was the director of the Tbilisi Music School and, at the same time, the head of the music department of the Rustaveli and Marjanishvili Theatres.

From 1933 to 1971 she lived in Moscow and worked in the leading theatres. She was Kote Marjanishvili’s closest colleague and collaborator. She created music for up to 100 stage works, including Sokhumi State Drama Theatre productions.
