David Toradze


He was born on April 4, 1922, in Tbilisi. Studied at Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory 1937-1939 (Composition and Piano Departments), Moscow Conservatory 1939-1941 (Composition). He been a teacher at Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory since 1953 (Professor, Composition and Instrumental Class since 1973). He has worked mainly in musical-theatrical and symphonic genres.

The heroic-patriotic ballet Gorda, created in 1949, was recognized as a landmark event in Georgian music-choreographic art. In Gorda, with its great artistic power and magnitude, the particularity of the Georgian national ballet was revealed. It has been successfully staged in Moscow, Hungary, Poland, the International Festival of Ballet Arts in Paris and in many other cities.
