Alexandre (Nukri) Kantaria

Georgian director, Member of Parliament (8th and 9th convocations of Georgia).

He graduated from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University, Faculty of Theatre Directing, Lili Ioseliani Workshop in 1981. In the same year, he began working at the same institute as an assistant to Professor Lili Ioseliani.

He worked as a director of Telavi Vazha-Pshavela State Drama Theatre. He was an artistic director of Sandro Akhmeteli Theatre in Tbilisi. In 2000 he was awarded the title of associate professor at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University, and, in 2004, he became a professor. He has received state awards, the Marjanishvili and Akhmeteli Prizes. He is an honoured art worker.

He has staged more than 50 plays, in Georgia and abroad, including in Turkey (Istanbul Drama Theatre), Lithuania (Vilnius State Drama Theatre), and Belarus (Minsk State Drama Theatre).
